Endless Pastabilities
I am the biggest pasta fan. There is a lot of nonsense out there regarding pasta and carbs. I think you should never take away foods you love, but always add things to meals that bring you joy. Here are my favorite ways to enjoy pasta.
1. Add you favorite vegetables.
I love adding my favorite vegetables to pasta to boost the fiber and nutrient content of the meal. Veggies make you feel full and contribute to satiety. I think sauteing mushrooms, broccoli and eggplant are great additions to pasta dishes.
2. Use pasta alternatives, like lentil or chickpea
I love using pasta alternatives like chickpea pasta or lentil pasta. These alternatives add extra protein to a meal and they taste delicious too.
3. Make a veggie sauce
I love making a vegetable sauce like a spinach or kale pesto. Using a green as a base for a sauce makes your dish more nutritious because the sauce is made with vegetables
4. Pair with a protein
If you love pasta, make sure sure to pair it with a protein like chicken, salmon or tofu. Pairing a carb with a source of protein and fiber will create a really balanced meal. It makes you feel full and satisfied.
5. Let yourself it eat pasta without guilt or restriction
When you do have pasta, you DO not need to always have veggies or pair it with a protein. You can have some plain buttered noods, or some delish mac and cheese. This is what food freedom looks like. Not every meal will be perfect and that is okay.
